Led by Eliptica CSO and co-founder Markus Ralser, the study examines demographic, clinical and medication effects on the blood proteome and shows that hormonal contraceptives influence a substantial fraction of measured proteins. The findings highlight the importance of accounting for biological and treatment-related confounders when interpreting population-scale proteomic data, supporting more robust biomarker discovery and disease modelling. These principles are directly relevant to Eliptica’s work with large, heterogeneous population cohorts, where separating disease-associated signals from other sources of biological variation is essential.
